Arman Tsarukyan crushes Mauricio Ruffy, strengthens UFC title-shot case
Arman Tsarukyan made a devastating statement at UFC 331, blasting past Mauricio Ruffy with a pair of elbows in the final seconds of the opening round in the co-main event at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The first-round knockout further strengthened his case for a title shot at the lightweight division.
Tsarukyan acknowledged that Ruffy, one of the division's top strikers, had connected with clean shots early in the bout, but he remained poised and confident in his ability to find a finish. "I feel great," Tsarukyan said post-fight. "The first round was kind of rough, but I knew I was going to finish him. First punches are always hard to defend because both of us are fresh."
Despite swelling around his eye from a Ruffy punch, Tsarukyan mixed his striking with his wrestling prowess to land the decisive combination. "I'm such a well-rounded fighter," he explained. "With wrestling alone, you cannot win fights. You have to mix it up. I made the best statement I could today." The knockout earned Performance of the Night honors and extends Tsarukyan's winning streak to six consecutive victories.
