Patchy Mix misses weight by staggering amount at RIZIN 54 weigh-ins

Patchy Mix's return to RIZIN has been derailed by a significant weight-miss at the RIZIN 54 weigh-ins in Tokyo. The former Bellator champion stepped on the scale at 63.85 kg for his bantamweight clash with Shoko Sato, coming in 2.85 kg (approximately 6.3 pounds) over the 61 kg limit. As a result, Mix has been removed from the co-main event slot, with another bout elevated in its place.

Under RIZIN's ruleset, an overweight fighter cannot earn a victory—any win is automatically overturned to a no-contest. This development extends Mix's current winless streak to three fights. The former featherweight made his RIZIN debut in March, losing to Kyoma Akimoto by second-round knockout, and subsequently dropped down to 135 pounds for this bout.

Mix's struggles have continued in the UFC as well, with losses to Mario Bautista and Jakub Wiklacz on his record. The weigh-in trouble compounds his recent difficulties inside the cage. Meanwhile, featherweight champion Kleber Koike and Akimoto both made weight successfully for the main event.

Alibek Gadzhammatov also missed his mark at the weigh-ins, coming in 3.85 pounds heavy for his flyweight encounter with Yuki Ito, triggering the same no-contest provision should he prevail on fight night.
