Michael Oliveira has a message for anyone questioning his weight cut
Michael Oliveira has dismissed concerns about his weight management following his impressive UFC debut in Belgrade, where the unbeaten Brazilian improved to 10-0 with his ninth knockout victory. Though Oliveira carried noticeably more weight outside of camp and arrived late to the weigh-ins—which sparked speculation and even caused betting odds to shift against him—he insists his weight cut is under control and methodical.
Oliveira credits his success in making the welterweight limit (77 kilograms / 170 pounds) to his work with renowned nutrition and weight-cut specialist Rogerio Camoes, who has previously worked with Anderson Silva, Ronaldo Souza, and Rafael Cavalcante. "The truth is everything is planned," Oliveira told Sherdog. "I make 77 kilograms without much difficulty, mainly because I work with Rogerio Camoes. He knows exactly what he's doing."
Despite entering the Octagon at just over 90 kilograms, Oliveira rejected any notion that he might follow the trend of welterweights moving up to middleweight, as fighters like Khamzat Chimaev have done. "The plan is to stay at welterweight until the end of my career—another nine or 10 years—without any issues," he said. The Dana White's Contender Series signee is targeting a return in November, though he remains ready to fight whenever the UFC calls.
