Michael Morales puts UFC welterweight division on notice, Ian Machado Garry responds

Undefeated UFC welterweight contender Michael Morales has made his championship ambitions unmistakable, calling out champion Islam Makhachev and other top-tier challengers in a video posted Sunday as he awaits his return to competition.
Morales, a 27-year-old Ecuadorian fighter, holds a perfect 7-0 record in the UFC built on three consecutive first-round knockouts of Sean Brady, Gilbert Burns, and Neil Magny. Despite his credentials, Morales has not fought since 2025 and faces an increasingly crowded contender queue. Carlos Prates, who scored a dominant knockout over former champion Jack Della Maddalena in May, appears positioned as Makhachev's next challenger, while former title challenger Ian Machado Garry continues his climb back toward another shot at the belt.
In his video address, Morales referenced prior conversations with Makhachev about a title fight and reminded the champion of the threat he poses. He also called out Prates, invoking their "Deadpool vs. Spider-Man" personas, and named Shavkat Rakhmonov—sidelined since December 2024 with injury—as the "final boss" of the division. Morales added a pointed message to Garry, dismissing the recent title challenger outright.
Garry responded Monday through social media, claiming he had already locked in a fight date with Morales and accused the contender of making excuses behind the scenes while playing to the public narrative. Garry emphasized his willingness to face anyone at any time as he pursues a path back to another title opportunity. The welterweight landscape remains unsettled: Morales may not return until 2027, and the UFC's next challenger to Makhachev appears poised to come from Prates or Garry rather than the sidelined Rakhmonov or inactive Morales.
