Ex-UFC star's new career takes wild turn during traffic stop

Former UFC title challenger Marlon Moraes has transitioned into law enforcement in South Florida, and a recent traffic stop showcased his combat experience in an official capacity. On March 27, viral footage captured Moraes, now a police officer with the Coral Springs Police Department, responding to a motorist who repeatedly verbally confronted and challenged him during a routine stop. After issuing multiple warnings to keep distance, the man moved aggressively toward Moraes, who responded with a hip toss—a technique from his fighting arsenal—to take the motorist to the ground. Other officers then moved in to restrain and handcuff the individual.

Moraes joined the Davie Police Department in June 2024 before later transferring to Coral Springs. The Brazilian's post-UFC career has taken an unconventional path: he exited the UFC in 2023 following a seven-fight losing streak, but has also attempted a return to mixed martial arts competition. In August, Moraes defeated Maximiliano Perez by unanimous decision, marking his first victory since 2019 after a three-year absence from competition.

The incident underscores the practical applications of MMA training in law enforcement work. Moraes' ability to execute a controlled takedown while managing a tense situation highlights how combat skills translate to policing.
