Diego Lopes reveals X-factor in Steve Garcia UFC White House matchup, says fans can ‘expect the best fight they’ve ever seen’

Diego Lopes will headline the historic UFC White House card on the South Lawn, facing surging featherweight contender Steve Garcia in what many expect to be a Fight of the Night candidate.

Lopes, a two-time featherweight title challenger, is making his first appearance since dropping a decision rematch to champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 325 earlier this year. Garcia arrives on a seven-fight winning streak, capped by a first-round knockout of David Onama at UFC Vegas 110 in November and a decisive victory over Calvin Kattar. The 145-pound matchup has drawn early attention as a stylistic clash between two aggressive finishers.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, Lopes acknowledged Garcia's impressive trajectory and knockout power but emphasized his own edge: high-level championship experience. "I have the experience for fighting for my position in the UFC, I have the experience for fighting for the belt," Lopes said. "I have the experience to fight [defending] my position too, and I have experience for fighting the [newer guys in the] UFC [that are] hungry for taking your spot."

Lopes predicted the bout will not go the distance. With Garcia holding approximately 15 career finishes and Lopes boasting around 22, both fighters are known for hunting the finish. "I think, 100 percent, this fight is not going to go for the distance," Lopes said, adding that fans should "expect the best fight they've ever seen." The featherweight opener provides an early statement opportunity on one of MMA's most anticipated cards, and many observers believe it has legitimate potential to steal the show from the main event.
