Dana White won’t speculate on injured Conor McGregor’s next UFC fight: ‘It’s not even worth talking about’

Conor McGregor's return to the octagon at UFC 329 lasted only moments before disaster struck. The former two-division champion suffered a severe knee injury while attempting a jumping switch kick early in his bout against Max Holloway, forcing an abrupt end to his comeback and shelving any immediate plans for his next fight.
UFC President Dana White made clear this week that speculation about McGregor's next opponent is premature. In an interview with MMA Fighting, White dismissed questions about the Irishman's timeline, stating flatly: "It's not even worth talking about." White explained that McGregor requires surgery and will face an extended rehabilitation period before his medical team clears him to resume serious training.
The injury dealt a significant blow to the UFC's scheduling plans. McGregor's bout with Holloway was intended as the first of two remaining fights on his contract, with the second reportedly slated for early 2027—and possibly April according to some reports. Many observers suspect McGregor sustained an ACL tear, an injury notorious in combat sports for requiring months of physical therapy and recovery.
McGregor has already suggested his final UFC appearance should be a trilogy bout against Holloway to settle their rivalry, but White is not entertaining that conversation at present. "Any Conor McGregor questions or rematch questions don't even make sense," White said, emphasizing that the fighter's immediate focus must be on surgery and rehabilitation. Until McGregor's physician clears him to resume full training, the UFC will not be mapping out his comeback—making any discussion of opponents or timeline purely academic.
