Rose Namajunas reveals the questions she must answer before UFC comeback
Rose Namajunas is taking time to reassess her future in mixed martial arts before committing to her next UFC bout, the former strawweight champion revealed during a recent podcast appearance. At 34 years old, Namajunas has spent recent months evaluating her motivations following a series of disappointing results and a serious injury requiring surgery.
Following her January loss to Natalia Silva at UFC 324, Namajunas underwent eye surgery to repair damage from an accidental poke, requiring her to wear a silicone tube and remain sidelined from contact training for three months. During her recovery, she also sustained a torn ulnar collateral ligament in her thumb. She received clearance to resume training in April but has not yet scheduled her return.
Namejunas is currently 1-2 in her last three bouts and 3-3 since moving to flyweight. She acknowledged that three consecutive opportunities—against Silva, Erin Blanchfield, and Manon Fiorot—were presented as potential title-shot fights, and coming up short in all three has prompted deeper reflection about her career path. "I'm at a point in my life where I'm thinking about family stuff and all these things, and next steps, future things," she explained. While she remains interested in competing, Namajunas emphasized that her next fight must be driven by genuine purpose rather than obligation. Her measured approach to a comeback reflects a veteran athlete carefully weighing personal and professional priorities.
