The former UFC bantamweight champion, now competing at featherweight, disclosed on his podcast that such an opportunity would require a proper training camp to execute at his best.

Sterling explained his reasoning candidly: fresh off travels to Serbia and Albania, he lacks the conditioning necessary for a five-round main event on short notice. "I would be on the ground wheezing for air," he said, emphasizing his commitment to honest self-assessment. While he acknowledged he might accept a three-round bout on short notice for the right financial incentive, a full camp remains his preference. Silva was originally slated to headline against Yair Rodriguez before Rodriguez withdrew injured; Jose Miguel Delgado replaced him.

Looking ahead, Sterling suggested he'd rather pursue established featherweight contenders such as Arnold Allen or the winner of Aaron Pico versus Arnold Allen at UFC 333 on October 24. He views Silva as a worthy future opponent but believes timing matters—a matchup makes more sense after both fighters have secured recent victories and built their credentials.
