Gregory Rodrigues carries his father’s dream into UFC main event

Gregory Rodrigues will headline UFC Sacramento on August 22 against Anthony Hernandez, marking the second main event of his UFC career. For "Robocop," the moment carries profound personal significance: the fight fulfills a dream that began with his father's influence a generation ago.

Rodrigues has reflected deeply on his journey to this stage. "I started very young in this journey through my father," he said. "Like I always said, that was my father's dream and then it became my dream and I made this dream become true." The Brazilian emphasized gratitude for the opportunity, noting that a conversation with a friend helped him recalibrate his perspective on how far he has come.

"A friend of mine asked me, 'Gregory, if somebody gave you this opportunity like 10 years ago, how would you react?' I said, 'Oh man, I would be like the happiest man on Earth.' He said, 'What changed? Why are you not happy right now?'" Rodrigues recalled. That exchange reminded him to appreciate each moment rather than lose sight of his progress worrying about things beyond his control.

Rodrigues emphasized the value of unseen hard work in reaching the elite level. "The good work is coming from the hard work I did when nobody see it," he said. As he prepares for his second UFC main event, the fighter is focused on savoring the moment and honoring the dream his father planted decades ago.
