Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway UFC 329 rematch: How the fight was made

Max Holloway has revealed the surprising origin story of his UFC 329 rematch against Conor McGregor. While on vacation, Holloway received a UFC contract via email offering the fight before his own manager was even aware. "I got the contract before even Tim [Simpson];" Holloway recalled. "He called me after, saying, 'Did you check your email?' I was like, 'Yeah, check me out. What the hell is that?' And it was to fight Conor McGregor, and it was crazy." Holloway noted that throughout the years, there had been repeated talk of a McGregor matchup that never materialized, making him cautious about the Irishman's unpredictability. "We kind of got, you know, throughout the years, you kind of hear like, hey, yeah, you know, maybe Conor, maybe Conor, maybe Conor, and um there's no difference," he told ESPN MMA. Given that McGregor had not competed in five years and appeared focused on other endeavors outside the cage, few expected the Irishman to actually return to the UFC. The pair will collide in the main event of UFC 329 on July 11 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with both former champions hoping to return to the win column.
