Esteban Ribovics takes unusual steps to prepare for King Green at UFC 332
Esteban Ribovics is taking an unconventional approach to prepare for his UFC 332 lightweight bout against King Green on October 3 in Salt Lake City, focusing heavily on acclimating to the city's high altitude.
The Argentine fighter (16-3) spent several weeks sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber that simulates lower oxygen levels before the fight. He also arrived in Salt Lake City ten days early to allow his body to acclimate to the thinner air and has been running in the mountains to boost his conditioning.
"When I found out that I was getting the fight, I actually slept for a couple of weeks in a hyperbaric chamber," Ribovics explained. "I did really well with that, and I came in 10 days before just to be acclimated to it, and so far, so good. I actually ran in the mountains, so I'm feeling good."
Ribovics (16-3) is coming off a victory over Edson Barboza after a submission loss to Mateusz Gamrot, and he is targeting a UFC performance bonus in his matchup with Green. He believes the striker's aggressive approach will allow him to showcase the high-volume striking style he has built his career on. "I'm made for the bonus, I work for the bonus, I train for the bonus," Ribovics said. He anticipates an action-packed affair and is confident that a dominant performance could propel him toward a ranked opponent and opportunities at the top of the lightweight division.
