Dana White reveals Conor McGregor’s injury details from UFC 329: ‘His knee is f*cked up’

Conor McGregor's long-awaited return to competition lasted only seconds. At UFC 329, McGregor faced Max Holloway in the main event but suffered a catastrophic knee injury in the opening moments while attempting a jumping switch kick. UFC CEO Dana White has now confirmed the severity: McGregor tore his ACL.
"ACL. His knee is f*cked up," White stated bluntly when addressing the injury. The diagnosis means McGregor faces an extended recovery timeline of nine months to a year, requiring surgery followed by rehabilitation before he can resume serious training.
The setback is particularly frustrating for McGregor, who spent the previous five years largely sidelined, much of that absence stemming from a catastrophic leg break suffered against Dustin Poirier. Before UFC 329, the UFC had targeted an April date for what was supposed to be McGregor's final fight on his current contract. That timeline is now impossible, with the earliest realistic return likely arriving next summer at the earliest.
White indicated there's no point discussing McGregor's immediate future until medical clearance is obtained. "He's having knee surgery. That's it," White said. "The Conor McGregor discussion isn't even worth talking about. He's got to have knee surgery. He's going to have to go through physical therapy. It's all going to take time. And then when the doctor says you can start hardcore training again, then we start talking about Conor McGregor again." For now, McGregor faces months of recovery with no definitive return date on the horizon.
