K-1 cruiserweight champ announces transition to MMA

Thian de Vries, the K-1 cruiserweight champion and one of kickboxing's most rapidly ascending talents, has announced plans to transition to mixed martial arts. "I am so f*cking happy and grateful guys," de Vries wrote. "It's been a tough year for me with injuries, a mental struggle sometimes. King of the Jungle is back, 2 more kickboxing fights and afterwards full focus on MMA, MMA is the future." While de Vries did not specify a timeline or target promotion for his MMA debut, his announcement signals his intention to follow a path blazed by successful crossover athletes like former UFC champions Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya, who both transitioned from elite kickboxing to dominant MMA careers.
