Jean Silva reveals injuries suffered before Noche UFC win, denies slapping Jose Delgado after fight

Jean Silva overcame a cascade of injuries to secure a dominant victory over Jose Delgado in the main event of Noche UFC in Glendale, Arizona, forcing Delgado to tap to a submission in the third round.

Silva was initially set to face former interim UFC featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez in a five-round bout, but Rodriguez withdrew due to injury less than a month before the fight. That same period saw Silva suffer a severe cut over his right eye during training, a development he described as deeply concerning given the opponent change. Beyond the eye injury, Silva battled a shin infection that limited his kicking work, then broke a toe adjacent to his big toe. He also felt discomfort in his hip and was knocked down during boxing sparring—a similar shot to one he absorbed during the actual fight with Delgado.

Despite these setbacks, Silva executed one of his best weight cuts as a UFC fighter, making championship weight on Friday morning. However, rehydration proved difficult; he vomited multiple times and arrived at the arena weighing around 161 pounds with clothes and shoes on, describing himself as "really skinny." In the cage, Delgado—fighting in his first UFC main event—hurt Silva on the feet in round one. Silva, however, reversed the momentum in rounds two and three, ultimately submitting Delgado via choke.

Silva explained his strategic adjustments postfight, noting that Delgado's striking patterns and tendencies had been extensively drilled in camp. He credited his corner for maintaining focus and emphasized that the knockdown in round one represented a lapse in his own execution rather than a flaw in strategy. Silva expressed confidence in his trajectory toward a title shot, stating his goal is to bring the belt back to Brazil.

Silva also addressed a postfight confrontation with Delgado, denying allegations that he attempted to slap his opponent. He clarified that after barking in Delgado's face, the referee pushed him, causing him to slip, which created the illusion his hand contacted Delgado's face. Silva contrasted this with his previous altercation with Diego Lopes, noting that Lopes had insulted his team, a line he will not tolerate from any opponent.
