UFC champion Justin Gaethje not interested in Paddy Pimblett rematch

UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje has little appetite for an immediate rematch with Paddy Pimblett, despite the Englishman's recent resurgence in the title picture.

Gaethje defeated Pimblett via unanimous decision in an interim title fight last January, putting on a dominant striking display over five rounds. The pair's contest went the distance in what many considered a Fight of the Year candidate. Six months later, however, Pimblett made a statement of his own at UFC 329 with a lightning-quick submission victory over Benoit Saint Denis, propelling him back into championship contention. Yet Gaethje, who captured the undisputed title by stunning upset over Ilia Topuria at the UFC White House card, shows no immediate interest in revisiting Pimblett so soon after their first encounter.

Despite ruling out a rematch, Gaethje holds genuine respect for Pimblett and the British fighter's resilience. Pimblett has spoken candidly about struggling following his loss to Gaethje, but credits witnessing Gaethje's upset victory over Topuria in June as a turning point that restored his confidence and perspective.

Gaethje has acknowledged the broader impact his improbable win over Topuria has had across the sporting world. Athletes including Rafael Fiziev, whom Gaethje defeated twice, and heavyweight Anthony Joshua have cited the performance as inspirational, drawing lessons about humility and the inherent dangers of combat sports. Gaethje expects to return to action at some point in 2027, signaling his next title defense remains months away.
